New Year - New Board - New Faces

Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship (FFCBC) Chair Tom Fry is pleased to announce that a partial Board of Directors is in place for the 2008 event. Fry, who has volunteered in each of the 13 years of the event and has served as Director of Tournament Operations for five years and an additional three years as assistant Director of Tournament Operations offi cially assumed the FFCBC Chairman’s role as of September 30th, 2007.
Pam Buttner, who served as a director from 1995 to 1998 and competed in 1999 and 2000, will return to the board as Director of Angler Registrations. Lauris Werenko, who has served two two-year stints as a board member, will continue as Director of Bar Operations. Cathy Tysz, Director of Computer Information Systems since 2005, will continue in that position for 2008.
Michelle Cain, a new director, has agreed to take on the position of Director of Daytime Activities.
Stacy Hahkala, who served as assistant Finance Director in 2003 and 2004, Finance Director in 2005 and returned in 2007, will continue as Director of Finance and Treasurer in 2008.
Doug Cain, who has served in various capacities as a director since 1995, will move to the position of Media Relations director.
Adam Armit, an assistant director in 2007, takes over as Director of Night Time Entertainment.
The task of creating, operating, maintaining and dismantling the 2008 event site at the Sorting Gap Marina will again be the responsibility of Ron Erb, who has served as Site Director since 2004. Jan Beazley, a new director, will take over as Director of Sponsor Relations. She will be responsible for communications with local, regional and national sponsors.
Cathy Tovey, who served as a director from 2001 to 2005 returns to the board as Director of Tournament Operations. Trish Bruyere, who served as a board member in 2007, returns as Director of Volunteer Coordination.
The positions of directors responsible for Food Court Operations and Marketing remain vacant. Other vacancies include Sponsor Relations Team Leader with specifi c responsibility for Bobber’s Penny Table and the Silent and Live Auctions well as team leaders in the Volunteer Coordination committee.
Helena Guertin (Daytime Activities-1 year), Murray Wepruk (Marketing - 4 years), Karon Kaminski (Night Time Entertainment - 2 years), Cathe Hoszowski (Sponsor Relations & Recording Secretary - 1 year) have retired from the FFCBC Board of Directors.
Jim Cumming (Chairman 2006 - 2007 & Angler Registrations 2005 - 2006) will sit as immediate past-chair and will act as the tournament Recording Secretary in 2008. Steve Lundon, who served as a Board member in 2007 will act as an assistant Director of Tournament Operations. Fry stated that he is committed to the chairman’s position for two years and is looking for someone to act a vice-chair and take over the Chair’s position in 2010. He also indicated that additional Team Leaders are needed in specifi c positions. Since 1995 over ninety individuals have volunteered as members of the original organizing committee or as members of the FFCBC Board of Directors.
